It’s the middle of April, and Spring is now here, teasing us just as it does every year,
With days that are warm, between days that are not – it either will rain, or snow a whole lot.
And the birds will return, singing their song – a sign that we really won’t have to wait long,
For barbecues, beaches, flowers and heat, and sandals replacing the socks on my feet.
While I do love the winter and the fun that it brings, there’s even more fun to be had in the Spring.
Like puddles and biking and all kinds of sports, we’ll take to the tennis and basketball courts.
And The Jays will start swinging their bats once again, so we’ll head to the Skydome to watch the event.
Our soccer and frisbee will all start back up, filling my days as well my cup.
In May we will start to tend to the yard, and change out the tires on both of the cars.
We’ll open the windows and turn of the heat, and head to the freezer for an ice cream or treat.
We’ll camp and we’ll hike and we’ll trek through the forest, then sleep under stars in the deep parts of August.
But I should slow down and not rush far ahead, and choose to enjoy this moment instead.
The buds on the trees are starting to show, and the sprouts of the tulips are starting to grow.
The grass is returning, beginning to green, and we’re spending less time in front of a screen.
We’re counting down days until school will let out, then day camps will keep us all busy throughout,
The warm summer days, when outdoors is best, when we get to sleep in for a little more rest.
At least for the kids, it will be a nice break; not for me, though, unless vacation I take.
But even at work, people’s moods tend to shift – when the sun shines through, the stress tends to lift.
And people take time away from their desk, to travel to Paris or Rome or Quebec.
Wherever they go – to the mountains or coast – it’s the memories made that will matter the most.
Of course, there are things that I don’t always like – things that have thorns, or a burr, or a spike,
It’s the season of wasps, and also of bees; I swear I don’t hurt them, still: don’t sting me, please.
And the spiders who make their gross nests in the corners, of every room in our house to our horrors,
These pests creep right in and make themselves home, like ladybugs, earwigs, and some things unknown.
But those things are not enough to outweigh, all of the fun that can fill up a day.
We’ll run through the sprinkler, we’ll swim in the lake, we’ll tan on beach when it’s time for a break.
We’ll take in a festival, listening to bands, and setup our very own lemonade stand.
Spring has arrived, and with it comes summer, it’s a great time year, when everything is funner.
Today being Easter, seemed a good day to post, about all these thing I look forward to most.
As the kids hunt for eggs, and chocolatey treats (which I’m hoping they’ll share, as I do love my sweets),
I find myself smiling, lost deep in thought – while they search for candy the big bunny brought:
I’m steeped in a joy that this morning did bring, the joy that comes with the first signs of Spring.
