The Sisters, Bean, Have a Future Dream

Jun 30, 2024

In a quaint little town, is where can be found,
Two wonderfully talented girls.
Only one year apart, they liked fashion and art,
And creating their own little worlds.

They played well together, in all kids of weather,
They’d sing and they’d dance in the rain.
Or take it quite slow, and just go with the flow,
When Summer time finally came.

Though both quite alike, in interests and sight,
Each girl was uniquely her own.
While one liked ballet, and playing croquet
The other liked reading alone.

For what makes them the same, which was sharing a name,
Their identity doesn’t end there.
From each of their minds, you can equally find,
They are different, as much as they share.

Out walking one day, the youngest did say,
To her Dad, who was holding her hand.
“When I grow up, I want to look up,
How I could become something grand.

I would make a great vet, I could take care of pets,
Or maybe I’d have my own farm!
Or join a fall fair, where I could take care
Of the animals stuck in the barn.”

She didn’t stop there, she continued to share
All the great things she wanted to be,
A teacher, a doctor, an artist, an author,
Her ambitions were more than just dreams.

“I like to take care, I could be an au pair,
Helping others who need it the most.
I could travel afar, by plane or by car
Bringing joy from the plains to the coast.”

They continued to walk, she continued to talk,
Of the future she wanted to see,
The she looked to her Dad, with a question she had:
“What do you think that I should be?”

Then he stopped and knelt down, with one knee on the ground,
He looked straight into her eyes,
There was only one thing, one answer to bring,
The only words he could advise:

“Whatever you do, whatever you choose,
I support you one hundred percent.”
He said to his child, as his whole body smiled,
“Be whatever will make you content.”

On another occasion, a similar equation,
Played out inside of the house.
When the other young daughter, looked to her father,
And asked him without any doubts:

“What is your thought, if I gave it a shot
To be a great fashion designer?
I like to dress up, it fills up my cup,
And no other job could be finer.”

Off the top of his head, he quite simply said,
“My dear, that would make me quite proud.
I’ve seen your designs, and they all are so fine,
They would stand out quite strong in a crowd.”

I’m a fan of your art, as it touches me my heart
It inspires me, all that you drew.
It would give much pride, to stand by your side,
If this is the dream you pursue.”

With the kids getting older, their questions are bolder,
Their interests are starting to show.
Their passions are clear, as the future draws near,
Both together and each on their own.

It’s hard to believe, all the things they’ll achieve,
The main thing they need is support.
Not to judge or to question, or offer suggestion,
Or opinion-based kinds of retort.

Both of the girls, take in the world,
And everything it has to offer.
Their talented brains, can often explain,
Things not understood by their father.

He has not forgot all the things that they taught,
And even before they could speak,
It pays to be curious, even though it might worry us,
And there’s always adventure to seek.

And so he has sworn, from the days they were born,
He would focus on what matters most:
The things that bring joy, and using our voice,
To ask questions that help us to grow.

As a parent he’s proud, and he’ll shout that out loud,
For the one thing that’s really quite clear.
Through their kindness and care, the love that they share,
Is the thing that he holds the most dear.
